Cars, petrol and diesel

A working garage in a unit at Triangle, Sowerby Bridge: servicing, repairs and diagnostics on cars, with the ramp time to do the job rather than guess at it.

This is the whole of what we take on a car — no more, no less.

  • Car servicingOil, filters, fluids, and a proper look round underneath while it's up.
  • Car repairsThe catch-all. If it's broken and it's a car, start here.
  • Car diagnosticsReading what the car has recorded, then working out what it means.
  • Engine diagnosticsA fault code is the start of the answer, not the answer.
  • Car brakesPads, discs and fluid. The routine job, least worth putting off.
  • Brake repairsSeized calipers, corroded pipes, a handbrake that won't hold.
  • Brakes and clutchesFriction parts. Both warn you first if you're listening.
  • Car enginesFrom a rough idle to a rattle you can hear on the drive.
  • Petrol enginesStarting, running, misfires and the light nobody can explain.
  • Diesel enginesInjectors, glow plugs, filters, and short-journey problems.
  • Fuel injectionHesitation, poor starting, heavy on fuel.
  • GearboxesThe expensive noise. Better looked at before it gets worse.
  • Car suspension adjustmentKnocks over bumps, a corner sitting low, tyres worn on one edge.
  • Steering adjustmentPulling to one side, or a wheel that isn't straight when you are.
  • Exhaust systemsBlowing, rattling or hanging low — usually a section, not the lot.
  • Car electricsLights, starting, charging, and the fault that only happens in rain.
  • BatteriesFine until it isn't. Get it tested before it strands you.
  • Oil changesThe cheapest thing you can do for an engine.
  • Parts fittingBought the part yourself? Bring it down and it'll go on properly.
  • Vehicle inspectionBefore you buy it, or because something doesn't feel right.
  • MOT repairsFailed elsewhere? Bring the sheet and the faults get put right.
  • General mechanicsEverything without a heading of its own. Ring and describe it.

MOT repairs, not MOT tests. We are not a test centre. Book the test where you always do, then bring the failure sheet here for the work.

What it costs. A bill is parts and time on the ramp, and both depend on the vehicle. Tell us the make, the model and the symptom and you'll know where you stand before we start.

Two wheels

Motorbikes and scooters

This is the part most garages can't help you with. We service and repair motorcycles and scooters alongside the cars, on the same premises.

If you have been passed from one place to the next with a bike, this is the short answer: yes, bring it.

  • Motorcycle repairs and servicesProper bench time, not a shrug and a phone number for somewhere else.
  • Scooter repairsA scooter you commute on isn't a small problem when it won't start.
  • Chain adjustmentsToo tight chews bearings, too slack jumps the sprocket. Set properly.
  • Oil changesShort intervals on a bike, and the job most often left too long.
  • Brakes and clutchesLever feel, bite point, and pads that have quietly gone.
  • Brake repairsSeized pistons, tired hoses, a back brake that does nothing.
  • BatteriesThe commonest reason a bike sat over winter won't turn over.
  • Engine diagnosticsFinding which part is actually at fault, not just which light is on.
  • Fuel injectionPoor starting, hesitation, and running rough when warm.
  • Petrol enginesStarting, running and misfires on two wheels as much as four.
  • Exhaust systemsBlowing joints, rattling brackets, and corroded downpipes.
  • GearboxesJumping out of gear or a selector that has never been right.
  • Parts fittingOrdered it online? Bring the bike and the box.
  • Vehicle inspectionA look over before you buy, or after a winter in a shed.
  • MOT repairsPut right what the tester wrote down. The test itself is done elsewhere.
  • General mechanicsAnything not on this list — ring and describe it.

Cars, motorcycles and scooters. That is the whole range, and it is unusual enough in this valley to be worth the drive up.

The phone is the fastest way to an answer. Send a photo on WhatsApp if it's easier — a picture of the part, the leak or the failure sheet beats a paragraph describing it.
