Made-to-order sandwich
Your bread and your fillings, in whatever order you like, built in front of you.
SandwichesAn independent deli on Commercial Street, in the middle of Halifax. Sandwiches, bagels and paninis are built in front of you. Jackets go in a real oven, and there's a salad bar to go with them.

The counter
Nothing sits wrapped in a cabinet waiting for somebody to pick it up. Filter the counter by what you're after, and it's made in front of you when you order.
15 things on the counter

SandwichesWarmed through and pressed, on whatever filling you fancy.
BagelsWith rocket. One of the bagels people come back in for.
BagelsHot off the press, on your choice of filling.
PaninisToasted. The one a reviewer said was superb.
PaninisAn hour in a real oven, never five minutes in a microwave.
JacketsWith as much off the salad bar as you want piled beside it.
JacketsBuilt from the salad bar — plenty of it, and plenty of variety.
SaladsAlongside a jacket, in a wrap, or in a box on its own.
SaladsCoconut, pineapple, mango, mint and lime, blended cold.
SmoothiesBlended fresh at the counter while you wait.
SmoothiesSomething sweet for the walk back, out on the counter.
CakesBaked and set out with the rest of the sweet things.
CakesNothing under that heading just now — go back to Everything, or ask at the counter, since plenty gets made that never reaches a list.
Vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options across the board — eat in, take away, or sit outside, and the shop is wheelchair accessible.
Prices are up in the shop, and a made-to-order sandwich comes down to what goes in it. Ask when you order and you'll have the figure before it's made.
A jacket baked in a real oven takes an hour or more. The skin crisps up and the inside goes floury. A microwave does the same potato in five minutes, and you can taste which one you've been handed.
Breakfast starts at 7.15am, early enough to catch you on the way in. Lunch specials go up on the board between 11.30am and 2pm, and they change through the week.
