Paris Gates, Halifax.
Down the cobbles, by the brook.
A traditional pub with rooms at the bottom of Paris Gates. Cask ale, something hot in the bar, and a bed upstairs if you want one. Ring us on 07123 456789.
Where it stands.
At the foot of the cobbles, under the mills.
The lane leaves the road by Holdsworth Mill and drops away sharply. Cobbles first, then mill walls on both sides. Then the Hebble Brook, running along the bottom.
The Shears is the building at the end of it. Ten minutes from the middle of Halifax, and it sounds nothing like the middle of Halifax. Most people find us once by accident and then bring everybody they know.
The bar.
Timothy Taylor's is the house beer.
Timothy Taylor's comes over from Keighley and it is on all year round. Cask beer is a live thing and it wants a cellar somebody keeps an eye on. One beer kept properly beats six kept badly.
There are lagers, stouts, wines and spirits behind the bar as well. Ask what is on if you fancy a change.
The food.
Something hot, eaten in the bar.
Pub food, in portions that mean it, on plates that arrive hot. Nothing pretending to be anything else. Nobody will move you on once you have finished.
Ring before you set off and ask what the kitchen has on. If there are a few of you at the weekend, say so and we will keep a table back. Guests staying the night eat breakfast here too.
The rooms.
Stay the night, walk to the match.
Every room is en-suite and has its own entrance from outside. Nobody is coming through the bar at midnight with a key in their hand. There is a television and a DVD player, and tea and coffee on the side.
Breakfast is included. Check in from two, and check out in the morning.
What a room comes to depends on the night and how many of you there are. Ring with your dates and you will get a figure on the call.
Nearby.
Six minutes from the Shay, a short walk from Eureka!
That is the useful part of being tucked down here. The football is a walk. The children's museum is a walk the other way, and the station is about fifteen minutes.
Halifax town centre and the Piece Hall are up the hill. Come back down afterwards and the pint is waiting.

1 Paris Gates, Halifax HX3 9EZ.
Follow the lane down past the mills until the cobbles stop at the water. We are the building at the bottom.
Ring for a table, a room, or to ask what is on the bar this week. Opening times move about through the week, so it is worth a call before a special trip.
The Timothy Taylor's and the walk to the Shay are as listed by CAMRA and local visitor guides.
