Rats, wasps, fleas. Dealt with calmly.
Pest control, garden care and pressure washing, based in Brighouse and working across Calderdale. Ring 07123 456789.
Most people ring having found something they would rather not have found. Droppings behind the bin, a nest in the eaves, bites round an ankle.
It is an ordinary thing to ring about, and there is an ordinary way of sorting it.
Rats and mice
Scratching in the ceiling at night, a chewed corner off a bag of dog food, droppings along the back of a cupboard. Those are the signs people notice first.
Rodents come in for food, warmth and somewhere quiet to sit out the winter, and they stay while it keeps working.
So what matters is where they are getting in, as much as what is already inside.
Finding rats says nothing about how you keep your house. Old stone, terraces, drains and a mild autumn — that is Calderdale, every year.
The same job might be a kitchen, a stockroom or a feed store. Domestic, commercial and agricultural work are all covered.
Price depends on the property, the pest and how far it has got. Describe what you have seen on the phone and you'll get a figure for your job.
Wasps and wasp nests
A steady line of wasps going in and out of one point in a roof, a shed or a garden bank usually means a nest, not a passing visit.
A nest starts the size of a golf ball in spring and is still growing in August. That is why one nobody noticed in June is the reason you can't sit outside in September.
The advice everybody gives and nobody takes. Blocking the entrance, emptying a shop-bought can into it or knocking it down usually makes the afternoon much worse.
Eaves, soffit, loft, shed, hedge, bank, under decking. The position changes how a nest is treated, so mention it first.
Wasps get bolder around food and drink late in the season. Ring and you'll be told honestly when somebody can get to you.
Fleas
Bites round the ankles, a cat that won't settle, the vet's treatment done properly and it carries on anyway. That's the usual order of events.
Most of a flea population is not on the animal at all. Eggs drop off into carpet, floorboard gaps and bedding, then hatch on their own schedule.
So treating the pet alone deals with the smallest part of it.
The treatment goes where the eggs are. Keep working with your vet on the animal; the two run alongside each other.
Fleas sit dormant and turn up when a house has been shut up, or after a previous tenant's pet has gone. Nothing to do with you.
Which rooms, how long it's been going on, and what pets are in the house. Two minutes on the phone is enough.
Farms, yards and premises
On a farm or in a business, pests stop being a nuisance and start being something you answer for — to an inspector, a customer or an auditor.
Commercial and agricultural pest control are both covered. Feed stores, outbuildings, kitchens, stockrooms and yards all have the same problem in different clothes.
Premises with a duty to stay clear usually want a routine rather than one visit. Say what yours needs and it can be talked through.
Supplies are part of the business too, for a farm or a site that handles some of it between visits.
Most businesses would rather this happened quietly. Say what suits when you ring.
Gardens, lawns and pressure washing
The name is not decoration. Alongside the pest control there is garden care and pressure washing, and plenty of customers only ever ring about those.
Garden services and lawn care
Grass, edges and the general keeping-on-top-of-it a garden needs through the growing season. Small terraced yards and proper gardens both.
What's included depends on the garden, so it's priced after a look rather than off a list.
Pressure washing
Drives, paths, flags, patios, and the green film that builds up on north-facing stone round here. It's the job with the most obvious before and after.
Say roughly how big the area is and what it's made of. That decides both the approach and the price.
Useful in practice: if the yard needs washing down and something is living under the decking, that's one phone call rather than two trades.
Send the detailsBrighouse, and across Calderdale
A mobile service, so everything starts with a phone call. Brighouse is the base and the work goes out across Calderdale, from Elland and Sowerby Bridge up to Ripponden and Hebden Bridge.
The phone is the quickest route. Ring it and you'll know straight away whether somebody can get out to you.
